The client: Eventime Barcelona. They bring many big events to Barcelona and this time the international star was Dj Just Dizle, from France.
The deal was to make three different photo shootings:
- At the disco, where he was djing (Shoko Barcelona)
- In the Barcelona streets
- A studio photo session
We started at 2:00 am at Shoko, then at 7:30 hit the streets of Barcelona (perfect timing for good light in July and almost no people around), and at 10:00 at my studio.
Photography at Shoko Barcelona (Disco)
The equipment: my beloved Nikon D700 and I used two lenses: 24-70mm 2.8 from Nikon and 35 mm 1.4 art from Sigma. The flash was remotely triggered and I used it far away from my camera, and close to Dj Just Dizle with a Lastolite small sosftbox perfect for my Nikon SB-910 flash. Disco photography is a little bit tricky, the main problem is get sharp images with almost no light. Here you have some pics from that event (click on them to enlarge!):
Photography in the streets of Barcelona
Again, with the same D700 but this time with an 85 mm 1.8 from Nikon instead of the 35mm art from Sigma and the 24-70mm. Again, I used off-camera flash and when the Sun came in, a reflector.
Barcelona has excellent locations for a photographer, and we decide that the Gothic and the Hotel W (at the beach) would be great for us. The first has a lot of graffities and «grunge» locations, among with some old buildings. The Hotel W is an awesome modern building that contrast with the old town…
Here some examples…
Finally, at the studio
Around 10am we were in the studio where we use again the D700 with the 24-70 and the 85mm but this time, we use a 3 lights or 2 lights setup with studio flashes. The Elinchrom RX-400 with softboxes made the job. This youtube video shows a tethered shooting using Capture One 9, the iPad using Capture Pilot, the lighting scheme… have fun!
This is one of the many photos took at the studio:
My special thanks to Stella from Eventime and Hub&In, Dj Just Dizle that was an awesome and versatile model and to Miguel Ricaldi and Montse that were my assistants during the different shootings.
