Barcelona is a major hub for events, conferences, trade shows, and conventions. One of the most impressive venues for this type of event is the CCIB, thanks to its unbeatable location next to the beach and its position in one of Barcelona’s most vibrant commercial areas, surrounded by large hotels.

The CCIB is huge. In addition to its spacious halls, which are perfect for large corporate event stages with giant screens and modern professional installations, it also offers several smaller rooms where multiple keynotes, conferences, focus groups, or networking sessions can take place simultaneously.

From a photographic perspective, it is a demanding venue. The scale of the building alone is a challenge, and lighting conditions can vary greatly depending on the room and the client’s setup. Some spaces may be very dark, while others receive a large amount of natural light. Photographing events at the CCIB is always a challenge, but with the right equipment and experience, the results can be spectacular.

Another advantage of the CCIB is its lower level, which can host large exhibition areas and trade shows. At previous events I have covered, the main conferences were taking place on the first floor while exhibitors and sponsors occupied the ground floor. On the upper level, there is also a massive room with stunning sea views. Depending on the event, this space may be used as a dining area, a networking venue, or an additional conference room with a truly unique setting.

One of the most important aspects for clients hosting events at the CCIB is not only receiving high-quality photography, but also receiving the images quickly. Executive meetings, partnership announcements, or contract signings often require photographs just minutes after they happen, as they may accompany press releases, marketing content, LinkedIn posts, or social media publications.

Now let me tell you a story. In 2025, Spain experienced a major nationwide power outage. The entire country lost electricity. I was covering an event at the CCIB that day. The lights went out, but within about ten seconds power was restored thanks to the venue’s backup generators. The outage started around 1:30 PM and lasted for hours across many parts of Spain, with some areas not recovering power until the following day. However, the event at the CCIB continued without interruption until its scheduled end at 6 PM. While the rest of the country was dealing with chaos, we barely noticed anything had happened. The only inconvenience was for some attendees who returned to their hotels later and had to climb several flights of stairs because the elevators were not working.
